[Food] Trumpet Restaurant @ Oasis Damansara - CLOSED

-----This shop is now CLOSED-----

Elephant and Trumpet theme. Jazz Elephant!

Thai Tea. Nothing special.

Thai Omelette. Why do people keep adding their cuisine name in front of a normal dish? It is just an omelette. Which part made it specially Thai? It should be called Just Omelette

Morning glory with garlic and oyster sauce. Just enough oomph in spiciness.

Massaman chicken curry

Massaman curry, the best food according to CNN. I have tried it twice in Malaysia both times I was not amazed. Either we have corrupted the flavor by making it Halal or CNN has got it wrong ( not a surprise :) ). This curry was a complex mix of flavors but to me it was distinctly sweet and creamy. Personally I do not like sweet curries and prefer it savory. The creaminess simply means it is too cloying to ever drink it till the last drop. So in my opinion, Tom yam is still undisputed king of Thai food and CNN food review sux!

[Food] Ploy @ Work@Clearwater

Amazing Ploy Black Fried Rice! (RM30.50)

Wonderful dinner at Ploy. Their signature Ploy Black Fried Rice was awesome! Balanced and flavorful rice. Add on the egg and get a silky, gooey texture like creamy carbonara without the cream :)

Tempura was forgettable though. Below average I would say. Give this a miss.

Spaghetti Thai Anchovies (RM24.50)
Lovely spaghetti! Nice and flavorful. Not overpowering or cloying.

Durian Panacotta ( RM12.50)

Must try Durian Panacotta!!! Rich durian flavor balanced with the milky panacotta.

[Food] Manmaru Udon @ MidValley

Manmaru Udon, a delightful udon place in Midvalley serves some very excellent udons. Each bowl averaging around RM20, was delicious. My favourite, the Onsen Tamago udon, partially cooked egg on al dente udon served with garlic, seaweed and chicken teriyaki. The flavors were well balanced and not over-powering. A clean and distinct flavor from each ingredient combined to make a wonderful udon meal.

Duck breast udon. Sweet, flavorful soup with high quality duck meat.

Nice Niku udon but unfortunately only average and certainly was the least inspiring of the 3.

Onsen Tamago Udon. The highlight of the night, highly recommended!

[Food] FIQS Gastronomy @ Subang Jaya

FIQS Gastronomy is a wonderful hidden little gem in the quiet neighborhood of SS19. The chef had worked previously for a Michelin 3-star restaurant and I must say the food certainly did not disappoint. Price is high but definitely worth it. Expect to pay around RM40~ per pax. Food is amazinggggggg. Highly recommended!

Simple and nice decor with a open kitchen concept. Love it!

Pillow soft gnocchi complimented perfectly by the crunchy strips of I dunno what.

Ravioli with a soupy cheese filling. An Italian xiao long pao!

Turkey ham & bacon sandwich. Wonderful smoky grilled taste served with a side of delicious fries.

[Hiking] Chilling Falls @ KKB

Chiling Falls

Chiling Falls! In my opinion the nicest falls in Selangor. I have been here several times but it had been more than a year since I last came here. I remembered that once I had taken a wrong path and went uphill to nowhere. I had to backtrack and take the right path. The path should always be along the river. This time I was paranoid that I would take the wrong path again. So when the path started to go upwards I thought that I had missed a river crossing and backtracked to see if I was suppose to cross the river. You can see the backtracking in the EveryTrail video above.

Anyway, Chiling falls is a nice lovely hike. When you arrive and park your car by the entrance, it is a 5 min walk to the campsite. Here you will need to register yourselves and any disposable rubbish that you have. There is a RM1 entrance fee and a deposit for any rubbish you might have. You can get back the deposit when you return with all you rubbish with you. I think it is a nice try to stop people from throwing rubbish everywhere, but irresponsible and uneducated people will not abide by these rules anyway.

The hike itself is an interesting one, there will be 6 river crossings before you will arrive at the bottom falls. The 1st crossing is a nice bridge right after the camp site. The 2nd crossing on the other hand, is quite a worrying distance away. So if you do go, don't worry that you don't see the 2nd crossing for some time. It is about 30~45 mins away with a clear signboard.

Chiling falls is a tall gorgeous falls and you can jump off the rocks into a deep pool. Unfortunately, there were a LOT of bees around the pool area. I had not experienced this on my previous trips. Sadly I think it is due to the amount of rubbish thrown around by uneducated people. :(
The bees are very annoying and when they get trapped, in my case in the plastic bag I was holding in my hand, they will sting you. And it hurts! My finger started to swell but thankfully by the time we got back to the campsite the swelling had already gone down. Definitely worrying if you have any allergic reaction to bees.

If you want to, you can actually continue hiking, the path will lead to a rather treacherous cliff-side hike and you will end up at the mid falls. I have only been there once many years ago, I remember it being very secluded with a very tall falls, big pool and jaw dropping view of the lower falls.

Total Hike Duration : ~ 1.5hours one way.

[Food] Grand Shanghai Food Theme Park @ Setia Walk

Beautifully decorated, the Grand Shanghai was a really awesome place to visit. It was a joy walking around in this beautiful replica of old Shanghai streets. A very photo friendly place. They even have costumes for rent so you can take pics. Cool.

We eventually settled for this shop below. Even the waiters were dressed in costumes!

Food thankfully was also good. Simple, delicious and healthy Chinese food. Noodles were served in a lotus root and peanut soup. The watercress soup was nice and flavorful.

Simply soup noodle with brinjal in minced meat.

Watercress soup. Good and flavorful

As we continued wandering around this wonderful world of Shanghai we had some interesting snacks. Taste-wise though they were not great.

Giant squid! Just novelty. Taste bla.
Kindori ice cream stall had a queue and so we gave it a try. Decent but nothing to shout about. Maybe it was the nice way the ice creams were presented? They has ice-cream biscuits, lollys, cakes. We only had the biscuit.
